How to choose a freelance marketplace
Six questions that decide which freelance marketplace suits you — fees on both sides, payouts, protection, how work is found and what it costs to start.

Decide how you want to buy or sell
Catalogue marketplaces sell ready-made, fixed-price services (Fiverr, Zinn Hub®, Legiit). Job boards match a posted job to proposals or bids (Upwork, Freelancer.com, Workana). Screened networks match you to vetted talent (Toptal). Pick the model first; the rest is detail.
Add up the fees on both sides
Look at the seller commission and the fee added to the buyer's payment together. A platform with a low seller fee and a high buyer fee costs the same deal as one with the reverse.
Check when and how sellers are paid
Clearance periods range from instant to weeks. Check the withdrawal methods available in your country, their fees and the minimum you can withdraw.
Read how disputes and refunds work
Find out who holds the money until the work is accepted, how long you have to raise a problem, and whether a refund goes back to your card or stays as platform credit.
Count the cost of starting
Some platforms charge freelancers to apply for work or sell memberships that lower fees. Work out whether that pays for itself at the amount you expect to bill.
Try it with a small order
Before committing, buy or sell one small job end to end. You will learn more about a platform in one order than from any comparison — including this one.
What a fixed-price marketplace looks like
Zinn Hub®, our top pick, lists ready-made services at a fixed price, and a seller who passes its identity and proof-of-work checks carries a Verified badge on every listing — the kind of detail this guide tells you to check before you order.
